Baptism

The second chapter in the new Christian “first steps” booklet identifies baptism as a critical step toward spiritual growth. Every time we baptize an individual at FBC, we talk about why Jesus went to the cross and willingly died as a sacrifice for our sins and to bring salvation by grace. I then share three reasons why a Christian should be baptized—
1. Jesus was baptized. Matthew 3:16 describes how our Lord was immersed in the Jordan river by John the Baptist. We should follow Jesus and be baptized.
2. Jesus told us to be baptized. Matthew 28:19-20 says to spread the gospel and be baptized in the “name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.”
3. Baptism is a symbol of Jesus and His death, burial and resurrection. A Christian should identify with the Lord and baptism provides a great platform to share a personal testimony for Christ.
